Positive self-concept- A person who values himself has a positive self-concept. It gives the person the ability to cope with different problems involving himself. He often has a big confidence and feels secure.

Negative self-concept- A person who has a hard time accepting criticisms or negative feedback has a negative self-concept. He lacks confidence and is insecure.

For me, gender and appearance influence my self-concept. My gender tells me the positive side of being a woman (since I'm a lady). It gives me awareness on how a good woman should behave in the society. Next, my appearance. As I get older, I realize that I needed to change my fashion according to my age. This affects my self-concept.

In order to have a positive self-concept, it is very important to accept your flaws as a person. If you're contented of who you are, you will feel more secure. You also won't get trapped in competing with other people for power and fame. Comparing yourself with others will make you even more distant and insecure.
