Answer:

proteins are made in the cell cytoplasm on tiny structures called ribosomes,to make proteins ribosomes use a code in the DNA

DNA is found in the cells nucleus and cannot move ,so the cell needs to get the code from the DNA to the ribosome this is done using a molecule called RNA (mRAN) - which is made by copying the code from DNA  , the RNA acts as a messenger between the DNA  and the ribosome - it carries the code between the two

Which one is NOT one of the properties of water?
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

a. the frozen form is more dense than the liquid form

Explanation:

The remaining properties are exhibited by water and are described as follows.

b. the frozen form is less dense than the liquid form

1. Water freezes to form ice.

2. When ice is put in water, ice starts floating in water and is visible.

3. If the density of ice was greater than water, ice would have got sunk and go downwards in the water body.

4. Hence, ice which is frozen form of water, has less density than water.

c. water is a solvent

1. The solvency is defined as the ability of a liquid to dissolve a substance.

2. Water is called the universal solvent. This means water can dissolve almost all types of substances.

3. Water is a polar solvent. The polar water molecules have the ability to break down both ionic and covalent bonds.

d. water has a high heat capacity

1. This is defined as the amount of heat needed by 1 gram of a substance so that its temperature is changed by 1 degree centigrade. The heat can either be gained or lost for the temperature to change.

2. The heat required by 1 gram of water to either increase or decrease the temperature of water is called the heat capacity of water.

e. water has a high heat of evaporation

1. This is defined as the amount of heat needed by 1 gram of a substance so that it changes its state from liquid to gas.

2. The heat required to convert 1 gram of water into vapours is called the heat of evaporation of water.

3. 1 g of water when heated at 25 centigrade needs 580 calories of heat to convert into gas.

All the above properties of water show the importance of water for life.

What is the basic unit of a nucleic acid and what is it made of?
riadik2000 [5.3K]
The basic repeating unit of nucleic acids are known as nucleotides. A nucleotide consists of three distinct chemical groups, a 5-carbon sugar (ribose or deoxyribose), a nitrogen-rich base - (cytosine (C), guanine (G), adenine (A), thymine (T) in DNA or uracil (U) instead of T (in RNA), and phosphate.

Analyze how a point mutation can affect the overall protein shape and function, using hemoglobin as an example.
aniked [119]

Answer:

A point mutation can be described as a mutation in which changes occur in a single nucleotide. A nucleotide may get changed, deleted or inserted from the sequence of DNA. Point mutations can be harmless or harmful depending on the nucleotide in which the changes occur.

A change in just one nucleotide can result in the formation of wrong amino acid and hence changed or wrong proteins can be formed. If the original protein was involved in cellular reproduction, then the entire process of reproduction can be affected by a point mutation.

Sickle- cell anaemia is a disease in which the body fails to produce enough healthy red blood cells. This disease occurs due to point mutation. Point mutation occurs where glutamine (GAG) of the β-globin gets changed into valine (GUG). This change causes the haemoglobin to get a deformed structure due to which it is not able to carry out oxygen.

Summers that are hot, humid, and rainy, winters that are below freezing with a lot of snow, 50-100 frost free days/year, and pre
Alex73 [517]

The correct option is D.

The Taiga biome, which is also known as the coniferous forest has been described as the largest terrestrial biome because it extends across some continents of the world. The biome typically has short summers, which can be very wet and winters, which are long and can be very cold. The majority of plants in taiga biome are conifers and these plants are described as ever green because they remain green all year round.
