The conflict that ends in Snowball's expulsion propels Napoleon into the position of the new leader.

After Napoleon expells Snowball from the farm for 'being an ally of the farmers', he becomes the new leader. From that moment, <u>Snowball is blamed for everything that goes wrong in the farm</u>; in other words, Napoleon uses Snowball as the scapegoat in order to manipulate the other animals. Moreover,<u> when he becomes the new leader, equality on the farm begins to decline: f</u>our-legged animals start to have more privileges than two-legged animals.
