\displaystyle 5-1\frac{1}{4}, the result is smaller than operation\displaystyle 5-1

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

Fraction numbers are known as numerators and denominators

On a number line, fractions are expressed in points that lie between two integers

The general form of fractions is

\large {\boxed {\bold {\frac {a} {b}}}

a = numerator

b = denominator

There are 3 forms of fraction

1. proper fraction

2. improper fraction

3. mixed fraction

Mixed fractions consist of whole numbers and proper fractions

Matt says that \displaystyle 5-1\frac{1}{4} will be more than 4, since 5 - 1 is 4.

We can prove Matt's says if we calculate the results of the subtraction operations from the two operations:

\displaystyle 5-1\:and\:5-1\frac{1}{4}

if we look at the first number, it has the same value of 5, while the second number of the two substraction operations is \displaystyle 1\:and\:1\frac{1}{4}

Number \displaystyle 1\frac{1}{4} is one form of mixed fraction, which if we change it into improper fraction becomes:

\displaystyle 1\frac{1}{4}=\frac{5}{4}

while the number 1 if we change into fractions (with denominators = 4) becomes \displaystyle \frac{4}{4}

So the number \displaystyle \frac{5}{4} is greater than  \displaystyle \frac{4}{4}

The conclusion in a substraction operation:

\displaystyle 5-1\frac{1}{4}, the result is smaller than operation\displaystyle 5-1

or we prove it by the results of operations \displaystyle 5-1\frac{1}{4}

In Subtracting Mixed Fractions, we change all the values to fractions

because denominators are 4, then the fraction we made has denominators 4

\displaystyle 5=\frac{20}{4}

\displaystyle 1\frac{1}{4}=\frac{5}{4}

\displaystyle \frac{20}{4}-\frac{5}{4}=\frac{15}{4}

convert back to Mixed Fractions

\displaystyle=\frac{15}{4}=3\frac{3}{4}

\displaystyle 3\frac{3}{4}

Proved that Matt's statement was wrong

Point K is on line segment JL. Given JK = 2x – 2, KL
Scorpion4ik [409]

Answer:

KL = 10

Step-by-step explanation:

JK + KL = JL

2x – 2 + x – 9 =  2x + 8

Combine like terms

3x -11 = 2x+8

Subtract 2x from each side

3x-2x -11 = 2x+8-2x

x-11 = 8

Add 11 to each side

x-11+11 = 8+11

x = 19

KL = x – 9

     = 19-9

     = 10
