When cell volume increases to an extent where the cell’s survival condition becomes non-favorable, the cell undergoes “division” to form “smaller cells” that have favorable surface area or volume.

Further Explanation:

In a cell, the movement of molecules takes place into and out of the cell with the help of the plasma membrane. The waste products are excreted out of the cell while the food material and gases are absorbed by the cell with water. The regions of the cell surface serve the internal region of the cell. The internal volume of the cell increases as the cell grows in size. This also results in the expansion of the cell membrane.

It is noted that the rate of increase in cell volume is higher than that of the surface area. Therefore, the amount of surface area for the transport of materials into the cell decreases comparatively with the increasing volume as the cell now requires more food to survive. The decreased surface area can not meet the growing needs of the enlarged cell. Therefore, the cell needs to stop further growth for survival.

As the cell becomes larger, the ratio of surface area to volume goes down. When the cell enlarges far away to a certain limit, the passage of molecules across the membrane cannot match to accommodate the increasing volume. In such a case, the cell divides. Several small cells are formed when the cell divides, each cell having a favorable ratio of surface area to volume to function properly.

What is the phenotype of an individual - XHY?
elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]
The genotype is the set of genes in our DNA which is responsible for a particular trait. Thephenotype is the physical expression, or characteristics, of that trait. For example, two organisms that have even the minutest difference in their genes are said to have different genotypes.

Animals eat plants and convert the chemical energy contained in them into
AlekseyPX

Answer:

food molecules into thermal and kinetic energy

Explanation:

The energy held in food is called chemical energy. It is a form

of potential energy held within chemical bonds between

atoms. When the chemical energy in food is transferred to cells

in the body, the energy can be transformed into energy used by

the body to do many things like run, ride a bike, do the dishes,

pump the heart, and keep the body warm.

What about the structure of atp makes it useful as the energy currency of cells?
Lelechka [254]
It has a high energy phosphate bonds, due to the large amount of electrorepulsive force between the highly negative force between the highly negatively charged phosphate groups. Energy is usually liberated from the ATP molecule to do work in the cell by a reaction that removes one of the phosphate-oxygen groups, leaving adenosine diphosphate (ADP). When this happens, the ATP is said to be spent.
