The answer is 2/15 because if you change 1/5 to 3/15 and 2/3 to 10/15 and then you add you get 13/15 and there is 2/15 left

Summer weeded \frac{2}{15} of the garden

  • The fraction of the garden weeded by Gorge = 1/5
  • The fraction of the garden weeded by summer = ?
  • The fraction of the garden that is still needed to be weeded is \frac{2}{3}
  • The whole garden = 1
<h2>Further Explanation</h2>

To determine the fraction of the garden that summer weeded = the whole garden - the fraction of the garden weeded by gorge + the fraction of the garden that is still needed to be weeded

It can be expressed as:

1 – (\frac{1}{5} + \frac{2}{3}) (firstly, let solve the fractions in bracket)

= \frac{1}{5} + \frac{2}{3} (15 is the smallest number that can divide both denominator), therefore we have:

= (3 x 1) + (5 x 2) / 15

= 3 + 10 / 15

= \frac{13}{15}

Thus, the fraction of the garden weeded by gorge and the garden that is still needed to be weeded is \frac{13}{15}

<h3><u>Step 2: </u></h3>

To derive the final answer to this question, Recall the whole garden = 1, therefore, we have

= 1 – \frac{13}{15} (can also be expressed as \frac{1}{1} – \frac{13}{15}) therefore we have:

= \frac{1}{1} – \frac{13}{15} (15 is the smallest number that divide both denominator), therefore we have:

= (15 x 1) – (1 x 13) / 15

= 15 – 13 / 15

= \frac{2}{15}.

Thus, the fraction of the garden weeded by summer is \frac{2}{15}.

<h3><u>You can also use this Method: </u></h3>

To determine the fraction of the garden that summer weeded = the whole garden – the fraction of the garden weeded by Gorge – the fraction of the garden that is still needed to be weeded.

Step 1:

= 1 – \frac{1}{5} – \frac{2}{3} (can also be expressed as \frac{1}{1} - \frac{1}{5} – \frac{2}{3}

= (\frac{1}{1} – \frac{1}{5}) – \frac{2}{3} (firstly let solve the fraction in bracket)

= \frac{1}{1} – \frac{1}{5} (5 is the smallest number that can divide both denominator)

= (5 x 1) – (1 x 1)

= 5 – 1  / 5

= \frac{4}{5}

<h3><u>Step 2: </u></h3>

Now, we should subtract the fraction we derived and the fraction of the garden that is still needed to be weeded. Therefore, we have:

= \frac{4}{5} – \frac{2}{3} (15 is the lowest number that can divide both denominator)

Therefore, we have:

= (3 x 4) – (5 x 2)

= 12 – 10 / 15

= \frac{2}{15}

Thus, the fraction of the garden weeded by summer is \frac{2}{15}

The principle of BODMAS was used in solving this number problem due to the fact that the question deals with fractions. The smallest number used to divide the denominator is also known as the lowest common denominator (LCD).

Ben weighs 140.8 pounds, and Jennifer weighs 117.7 pounds. How many more pounds does Ben weigh than Jennifer?
DENIUS [597]

Answer:

Ben weighs 23.1 lbs more than Jennifer.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the difference between Ben and Jennifer's weight, you have to subtract the smaller number from the bigger number. In this case, subtract Jennifer's weight from Ben's weight. This would look like this: 140.8-117.8.

140.8-117.7=23.1

Therefore, Ben weighs 23.1 lbs more than Jennifer.
