Suppose that a household's monthly water bill (in dollars) is a linear function of the amount of water the household uses (in hu

ndreds of cubic feet, HCF).
When graphed, the function gives a line with a slope of 1.55. See the figure below.
If the monthly cost for 15 HCF is $47.84, what is the monthly cost for 9 HCF?

Answer:

The monthly cost for 9 HCF is $38.54

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>The graph is missing; however, the question can still be solved</em>

Given

Slope = 1.55

When monthly cost = $47.84, Amount of water = 15 HCF

Required

Determine the monthly cost for 9 HCF

From the question, we understand that it is a linear function;

Linear functions are of the form

y = mx + b

Where y is the function of x and m is the slope

In this case; the function is the monthly water bill

and x is the amount of water

Solving for b

When monthly cost = $47.84, Amount of water = 15 HCF

The function is as follows;

47.84 = 1.55 * 15 + b

47.84 = 23.25 + b

Subtract 23.25 from both sides

47.84 - 23.25= 23.25 - 23.25 + b

24.59 = b

b = 24.59

Solving for the monthly cost for 9 HCF

Here, we have that

x = Amount\ of\ water = 9

m = Slope = 1.55

b = 24.59

Substitute these values in the linear function; y = mx + b

y = 1.55 * 9 + 24.59

y = 13.95 + 24.59

y = 38.54

<em>Hence, the monthly cost for 9 HCF is $38.54</em>

The sum of two numbers is 43 and the difference is 19. what are the numbers?
Burka [1]
You can solve this via algebra, lets say the numbers are x and y.
x + y = 43 and x - y = 19

You can re-arrange one of the equations to get

x = 43 - y Then substitute this into the other equation, so instead of x you put this:

(43 - y) - y = 19
43 - 2y = 19
-2y = 19 - 43
-2y = -24
-y = -12
so y = 12
then you can do 43 - 12 = 31 to get both of the numbers.
so the numbers are 31 and 12

What is the volume of four cubes with a side length of fraction 1 over 4 foot? V = s3, where s is the side length.
Softa [21]

Answer:

<h2>D. fraction 1 over 16 ft³</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula of a volume of a cube:

V = s³

s - side length

We have s = 1/4 ft. Substitute:

V = (1/4)³ = 1/64 ft³

We have four cubes.

4V = 4 · 1/64 = 1/16 ft³

A political candidate has asked his/her assistant to conduct a poll to determine the percentage of people in the community that
zavuch27 [327]

Answer:

The desired sample size is 97.

Step-by-step explanation:

Assume that 50% people in the community that supports the political candidate.

It is provided that the candidate wants a 10% margin of error (MOE) at a 95% confidence level.

The confidence interval for the population proportion is:

CI=\hat p\pm z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}}

Then the margin of error is:

MOE= z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}}

Compute the critical value of <em>z</em> as follows:

z_{\alpha/2}=z_{0.05/2}=z_{0.025}=1.96

*Use a <em>z</em>-table.

Compute the sample size as follows:

MOE= z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}}

       n=[\frac{z_{\alpha/2}\times \sqrt{\hat p(1-\hat p)} }{MOE}]^{2}

          =[\frac{1.96\times \sqrt{0.50(1-0.50)} }{0.10}^{2}\\\\=[9.8]^{2}\\\\=96.04\\\\\approx 97

Thus, the desired sample size is 97.

I’m stuck need help ASAP
Mamont248 [21]
An inequality for this speed sign would need to be one where x is less than or equal to 25mph. We don't have to go exactly 25mph, but it's okay if we do go exactly 25mph. We can also go less than 25mph without getting a ticket.

An inequality equation would look like this:
x < 25
***should be less than or equal sign but I don't have one on my keyboard

Hope this helped!! :)
