A clock manufacturer’s fixed costs per month are $5000. The unit cost for each clock is $15. Find the number of clocks made duri

ng a month in which the total cost was $65,000. Use the formula T = UN + F, where T is the total cost, U is the cost per unit, N is the number of units made, and F is the fixed costs.

Answer:

4000

Step-by-step explanation:

THe formula given is:

T = UN + F

Where T is the total cost

U is the cost per unit

N is the number of units manufactured

F is the fixed cost

Also, in the problem, it is given,

F = 5000

U = 15

T = 65000

We need to find N, the number of clocks, so lets rearrange the formula so that we have N = SOMETHING:

T = UN + F\\UN=T-F\\N=\frac{T-F}{U}

Now we substitute the given information into this to find N:

N=\frac{T-F}{U}\\N=\frac{65000-5000}{15}\\N=\frac{60000}{15}\\N=4000

So,

number of clocks made = 4000

Solve by the linear combination method (with or without multiplication) <br> 2x+3y= -17, 5x+2y = -4
Amiraneli [1.4K]
2x+3y= -17
5x+2y= -4
You must cancel either the x or y out to solve so i'm going to cancel the x.
-5(2x+3y= -17)
2(5x+2y= -4)
This simplifies to:
-15x -15y=85
15x+4y= -8
The -15x and 15x cancel out leaving you:
-15y=85
4y= -8
You add them top numbers by the bottom and get:
-11y=77
Then divide by -11 to get y by its self.
y= -7
Now that you know what y is just plug it in to either original problem. I will use the second one.
5x + 2(-7) = -4
5x -14 = -4
5x = 10
x = 2
So the answer is (2,-7) or x=2 and y=-7

At a drive through restaurant Juan’s family ordered a small drink and m medium drinks. Alex’s family ordered m medium drinks and
sertanlavr [38]

<u>Answer: </u>

Expression x + 2my + z represents cost of order where x, y, z are cost of small , medium and large drinks (in dollars) respectively.

<u>Solution: </u>

Given that

Juan’s family ordered a small drink and m medium drinks.

Alex family ordered m medium drinks and a large drink.

Need to write an algebraic expression which shows total cost of both order in dollars.

Let’s assume cost of one small drink = x

And assume cost of one medium drink = y

And assume cost of one large drink = z

So now cost of order of Juan’s family is equal to cost of 1 small drink + cost of m medium drinks = 1 \times x + m \times y

= x + my

And cost of order of Alex family is equal to cost of m medium drinks + cost of one large drink

= m x y + 1 x z

=my + z

So total cost of both order in dollars = x + my + my + z = x + 2my + z

Hence expression x + 2my + z represents cost of order where x , y , z are cost of small , medium and large drinks (in dollars) respectively.
