A wealthy, northern industrialist would have most probably supported the <span>Alien Contract Labor Law</span> during the late 1800s. This is because the north were in-charge with manufacturing they had high demand for cheap labor. The act was passed to ensure that there were enough laborers for the industries in America.
A democracy and a monarchy are very different in terms of the rights and responsibilities of citizens, since in a democracy the citizens have the right to overthrow or remove their elected officials, where as in a monarchy they have no choice over who rules them. Citizens therefore have less political responsibility in a monarchy, however.
It would be drier because the mountains would stop rain from coming over into the valley. It's called the rain shadow effect or something. That's has much as I know.
