8/11 of the lot was unoccupied.  Thus, the # of add'l cars that could be parked there would be (8/11)(231 cars) = 168 (answer).

Hello!

3/11 was occupied. That means there's 8/11 left because 1 - 3/11 = 8/11

You have to find 8/11 of 231

\frac{8}{11} \times  \frac{231}{1} =   \frac{1,848}{11} = 168
