Katrina is the name of a hurricane that hit the southern coast of the United States at the end of August 2005.

Explanation:

  • It occurred near the Bahamas on August 24, 2005, and the first landfall occurred near Miami (Florida) when the magnitude of the hurricane was Category 1 on the Sapphire-Simpson Hurricane Scale.
  • It caused major flooding and 11 deaths there. The hurricane continued its course in the Gulf of Mexico where it was put into effect. On August 29, a hurricane hits the U.S. states of Louisiana and Mississippi with Category 4 power (250 mph winds).
  • Severe damage was caused to coastal areas and 80% of the city of New Orleans was flooded. The hurricane also caused casualties and damage in the states of Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky.
  • In total, more than 1000 people were killed. It was estimated to be the most expensive natural disaster in the US up to that time.

Answer:

According to Nkrumah the troubling conditions are that Africa is fighting with the European imperial nations and don't have the resources they need.

Nkrumah says these problems can be overcome by stealing from the imperial nations so the African nations have more money and resources to fund the fighting.

Nkrumah says this is so important for Africa because if they don't do that they will lose their independence to the European countries.

Based on what I have learned in class, this will be difficult because the African nations don't have the infrastructure or soldiers they need.
