Read the excerpt from The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England. In 1574 the city authorities are given powers to restric

t playhouses, forcing the actors to find new premises in the suburbs. This becomes a golden opportunity for John Brayne and his brother-in-law, James Burbage, who in 1576 build a new theater, simply called The Theatre, at Shoreditch, just half a mile north of Bishopsgate. The following year a second theater, the Curtain, is built just two hundred yards away. Despite some heavy opposition from Puritan preachers and moralists, both theaters are successful. Which event happened third? Puritan preachers opposed both new theaters. The Theatre was built by Brayne and Burbage at Shoreditch. The Curtain, a second theater in the area, was built. City authorities were given powers to place restrictions on playhouses.

Answer:

The correct option is c) "The Curtain, a second theater in the area, was built."

Explanation:

According to the text and the options provided, the first event is the restriction of playhouses by city authorities so option d) is incorrect.

Then, the secord event that took place is the contruction of a new theater called "the Theatre" (option b is also incorrect).

The third event is the construction of another theater so option c is the correct one.

And finally, the fouth event is the opposition of Puritan preachers to the theaters.
