This act passed by the government to forbid slavery in the land north of the Ohio River. The Ordinance of 1787 main purpose was to create a legal state with specific areas so that States didn't fight with each other over the territories. The states which were formed under the Ordinance of 1787 were five Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
