Muscles have their origins (also known as heads) and insertions. Those are places where the muscles are anchored.
A word biceps is made of two Latin words: bi - two and ceps - head. So, biceps is two-headed muscles. It has two origins: coracoid process of the scapula and supraglenoid tubercle.
Similarly, a word triceps is made of three Latin words: tri - three and ceps - head. So, triceps is three-headed muscles. It has three origins: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula, above the radial sulcus, and below the radial sulcus.

Would a muscle cell be able to produce a functional contraction if it lacked t-tubules?
hjlf

The answer would be no. T-Tubules or Transverse tubules are additions of the sarcolemma that infiltrate into the center of cardiac and skeletal muscle cells. There would be no functional contraction since it would not be capable to communicate or interconnect with the other cells.
