Solution:

The given lengths are :1\frac{1}{4} and  \frac{3}{8}

Converting the mixed fraction to improper fraction we have :

1\frac{1}{4} =\frac{5}{4}

The difference between the two fractions is :

1\frac{1}{4} - \frac{3}{8}= \frac{5}{4} -\frac{3}{8}

The LCD is 8.

Making denominators of both fractions same we have:

\frac{5x2}{4x2}- \frac{3}{8}= \frac{10}{8}-\frac{3}{8}

Denominators same numerators can be subtracted:

\frac{10-3}{8}= \frac{7}{8}

The difference between the two button is \frac{7}{8}[/tex] inche.

Choose the statement that tells how the area of the reduced design compares to the area of the original design.
timama [110]

The original is 5cm, the reduced is 2.5cm

2.5/5 = 0.5 = 1/2

Area is a square measurement, so the area of the reduced image would be the scale squared, which would be 1/2^2 which = 1/4

The answer is:

The area of the reduced design is 1/4 of the area of the original.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

5x + 7x - 1/2x + 1/4 = 6

move x to one side move numbers to the other side

5x + 7x - 1/2 x = 6 - 1/4

add x and numbers

23/2x = 23/4

divide both side by 23/2

x = (23/4)/(23/2)

  = 1/2

plug it in to check the answer

5/2 + 7/2 - 1/4 + 1/4 = 6

12/2 = 6
