1. If the angles are congruent the measures are equal.  That's the angle congruence postulate, usually too obvious to name.

2. The measures of complementary angles add to 90 degrees.  That's the definition of complementary angles.

3. We substitute m∠2 for m∠1 so now m∠2 + m∠3 = 90 degrees.

4. The measures add to 90 degrees so now we conclude ∠2 and ∠3 are complementary.

------------

Why did this proof bother with the measures at all? Proof: Angles 2 and 3 are complementary.  Angle 1 is congruent to Angle 3.  Therefore Angles 1 and 3 are complementary.

Suppose a basketball player has made 390 out of 434 free throws. If the player makes the next 2 free throws, I will pay you $40.
alukav5142 [94]

Answer: a) -$0.19, b) -$111.72 .

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Number of free throws = 434

Number of throws made by them = 390

Amount for making the next 2 free throws = $40

Amount otherwise he has to pay = $169

a) Find the expected value of the proposition.

Expected value of success in next 2 free throws = \dfrac{390}{434}\times \dfrac{391}{435}=0.8077

Expected value would be

0.8077\times 40+(1-0.8077)\times -169\\\\=32.308-32.4987\\\\=-\$0.19

b)  If you played this game 588 times how much would you expect to win or lose?

Number of times they played the game = 588

So, Expected value would be

588\times -0.19\\\\=-\$111.72

Hence, a) -$0.19, b) -$111.72

Determine which ordered pair makes the equation true.<br> 2x + y = 11
slavikrds [6]
There is no one ordered pair that makes the equation true, this is a line which has infinitely many ordered pairs that are true...

2x+y=11  subtract 2x from both sides and you have the line in slope intercept form..

y=11-2x

For any real given value of x, you will get one real unique corresponding value for y, resulting in infinitely many unique (x,y) values, points, or ordered pairs, satisfying the given equation.

I assume that you were given "choices" to pick from because of the above reality.  So if any of your choices does not satisfy y=11-2x it is not an ordered pair satisfying the equation.
