The correct answer is E.

Prohibition in the United States ( 1920-1933 ), was a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, transportation, importation and sale of all alcoholic beverages.

Prohibition happened because of the need to cure the ill and weak society which was the result of alcohol consumption, as stated by many 'drys' - activists who supported the prohibition. This movement was led by pietistic Protestants and gained a national grass roots base through the Woman's Christians Temperance Union.

The temperance movement is a social movement against the consumption of alcoholic beverages. It became prominent in many countries and led to the Prohibition in the United States. Followers of this movement criticize alcohol intoxication or promote complete abstinence. They emphasize alcohol's negative effect on health, family life and personality. They promote alcohol education and demand new law against the selling of alcohol or its usage.
