Why does amylase from saliva stop working in the stomach? what other organ produces amylase?
Novosadov [1.4K]
Amylase is an enzyme, which are protein molecules that help in the breakdown of complex substances. Enzymes have optimum conditions in which they operate, which also include specific pH ranges. The pH in the stomach is too low for amylase to work in, so amylase is denatured and does not perform its function in the stomach.

The other organ producing amylase is the pancreas.

How do you apply the tourniquet in performing a blood draw?
Zielflug [23.3K]

Answer:

A tourniquet should be at least 4cm wide to prevent localised damage to nerves tissues. A tourniquet must be put on sufficiently tight to stop the bleeding. If it is not tight enough it can actually end up increasing blood loss. It may be necessary to apply more than one tourniquet to completely stop bleeding. It should also be roughly 4-5 cm from the draw point.
