1. In 1821, New Mexico was a territory controlled by Spain

2. Men, and a few women, who traveled the Santa Fe Trail did so to get help for the caring or to see new opportunities

3. It took more than a month to travel from Missouri to New Mexico along the Santa Fe Trail.
