Answer:

Explanation:

DNA mutations could be silent and have no effect, others affect protein synthesis. Mutation is a change in a DNA sequence brought about either by a mistake made when the DNA is copied or through chemical damage.

A point mutation is a single-letter swap – an exchange of two bases, adenine to cytosine, for example, at a single location in the DNA molecule. Since the sequence of letters in a gene determines the sequence of amino acids in the protein it encodes, a point mutation can change the amino acid sequence of the resulting protein. Sometimes a change in the protein's amino acid sequence can have dramatic results. For example, sickle cell disease occurs when a single-point mutation in the gene that encodes the hemoglobin molecule results in deformed red blood cells.

Answer:

B) This mutation is a deletion mutation resulting in a frameshift. This would result in a different reading of the codons following the mutation, causing a different translation from the original strand. The protein being created could be abnormally short, abnormally long, and will most likely not be functional.

Crank

Answer:

The double recombinant individuals are less frequent ---> Abc and aBC

Explanation:

We can know if genes are linked, by looking at the progeny distribution. In a tri-hybrid cross, If individuals, whose genes assort independently, are test crossed, they produce a progeny with equal phenotypic frequencies 1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1. If we observe a different distribution, meaning that phenotypes appear in different proportions, we can assume that genes are linked in the heterozygote parent.

We can recognize the parental gametes because their phenotypes are the most frequent in the descendants, while the double recombinants are the less frequent. Finally, the simple recombinant gametes are the ones with intermediate phenotypes frequencies.

In the present example, the phenotypic ratio shows different proportions than the expected ones if they were not linked.

We can recognize the parental gametes in the descendants because their phenotypes are the most frequent,

  • ABC and abc   600

while the double recombinants are less frequent.

  • Abc and aBC  50

And simple recombinant gametes produced by the cross, which frequencies are intermediate.

  • AbC and aBc 200
  • ABc and abC 150

a. Which phenotype represents the double crossovers

The double recombinants are less frequent ---> Abc and aBC
