So the independent is what you keep the same. You must keep the experament controlled because if you have more than one variable there is the chance that you will not know what factor changed the experament.

Ex: If you are trying to find out the height of a plant based on what you add to the soil and you give it plant A water, plant B soda, and plant C milk, AND you stick plant A and B in the shade and stick plant C in the sun you will never know what affected the hight of the plant due to the different variables.
