Biology

Answer:

The answer is the last stated correct Characteristics statement which is 'Osmosis occurs through a semipermeable membrane. Diffusion occurs through a permeable membrane’.

Explanation:

Osmosis is the net movement of solvents (i.e water) and solutes through a semipermeable membrane from a region of higher concentration to a region od lower concentration, while diffusion is the movement of particles (i.e molecules, ions and atoms) from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.

Based on these definitions with regards to the question Osmosis and Diffusion both:

  • are passive transport processes, which means they do not require any input of extra energy to occur
  • have particles that move from an area of higher concentration to one of lower concentration
  • additionally, Osmosis is used for mostly solvents (water) and some solutes (salt), making diffusion uses for mostly oxygen and carbon dioxide

Hence the only distinctive characteristics, that is correct, which makes Osmosis different from Diffusion is that Osmosis occurs through a semipermeable membrane while diffusion is through a membrane only.

Place the following events of a reflex arc in the correct order: 1) motor neuron activation, 2) sensory neuron activation, 3) se
VikaD [51]

Answer:

The reflex arc follows this sequence of events

1. sensory receptor activation

2. sensory neuron activation

3.information processing

4. motor neuron activation

5. effector response

Explanation:

Reflex arc is the pathway of nerves during a reflex action. An example of a reflex arc is when we accidentally touch a hot object. First, the receptor in the skin detects a stimulus in this case the change in temperature. Second, the sensory neuron transmit the electrical impulses to the Central Nervous System for information processing. Then relay neurons connect sensory neurons to motor neurons. Third, motor neurons sends electrical impulses to an effector wherein the effector produces a response ( muscle contracts to move the hand away from the hot object. This happens in a split of seconds.

What will happen to the substances in this diagram to bring the concentrations closer to equilibrium?
A. The solute will flow into the cell from the surrounding environment.
B. Nothing will change--it is already in equilibrium.
C. Water will flow into the cell from the surrounding environment.
D. Water will flow out of the cell and into the surrounding environment.

My answer:
D. Water will flow out of the cell and into the surrounding environment.

The solute cannot pass through and go inside the cell, water has to flow from the cell to the surrounding environment to bring the concentration closer to equilibrium.
