Read the rough-draft paragraph. More than likely, fellow volunteers will have many common interests and ideals. After all, volun

teers usually seek opportunities to use their time and talents for issues they care about, and this is often a good starting point for many friendships. As co-volunteers, hours will be spent together learning from one another and inspiring each other while working to achieve a common goal. Teaming up with others to solve community problems and making changes for the better, not surprisingly, often leads to long-lasting bonds.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Which topic sentence should be added to this body paragraph? A)Local community programs provide opportunities for volunteers to share their expertise.         B)Volunteering for local community programs enables people to establish new friendships.            C)Acquaintances made while volunteering for a project are rarely continued beyond the project’s conclusion.              D)Every community has programs that will gladly accept the services of enthusiastic volunteers.

I think the correct answer from the choices listed above is option B. The topic sentence that should be added to this body paragraph would be that "<span>Volunteering for local community programs enables people to establish new friendships. " Basically, the paragraph speaks about friendship that is established in volunteering activities. Hope this answers the question.</span>

Answer:In this passage, Stowe is discussing the passage of time. His point -- and the lesson he is trying to teach -- meshes nicely with the technique he uses to get this point across.

Stowe makes the point that when looking back on bad times ("looking back to seasons which in review appear to us as those of deprivation and trial") we often remember that there were moments of happiness ("diversions and alleviations") that prevent us from being totally unhappy.

Stowe is also trying to indicate that time passes almost without our being aware of it. While it is true time passes "a day at a time," days accumulate without our being aware of it. And so, the year will end when it feels it has barely begun. The time jump Stowe uses is a perfect way to illustrate this point.

Although Tom has to live one day at a time, and even though he is not entirely happy, before he knows it "two years were gone." Thus, this time jump allows Stowe to do two things.

First, this time jump has a practical application. This drastic time jump of two years allows Stowe to fast forward quickly in time without describing all the little and unimportant events that happened over the course of two years. (It is enough to know that Tom lived through times of deprivation but had moments of happiness.) Second, this time jump allows Stowe to illustrate the theme of the passage of time that he is discussing in this excerpt.

Read the excerpt from Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms.
viva [34]

Answer:

- It makes the narrator seem disciplined.

Explanation:

Diction or word-choice always plays a vital role in creating the intended picture, tone, or mood through vivid descriptions and details. It assists the author to leave the desired impact on the audience and elicit an intended response from them.

In the given excerpt, the words or diction express the idea that 'makes the narrator look disciplined.' <u>The words like 'hoped', 'asked'. 'found the dugout', and the words he uses to describe others like 'the major was a little man, he was too kind', etc. imply that the narrator is a systematic and orderly man</u>.
