the federal reserve acts to output and input the US dollar into the public to prevent inflation. the fed does not produce money. that is done by the department of engraving which controls the mint, where money is actually made.

there is though great argument over whether the fed actually completes its goal of forming a stable economy. the release of large amounts of money to combat the possible risks of individuals and businesses holding large amounts of funds actually lowers the price of the dollar, raising prices lowering the wealth of individuals and businesses of all wealths and sized
