Voters have changed due to the fact that any person above 18 has the right to vote, Women, and African Americans included. Also, in past times, thee was less efficient means of voting, so people only knew about candidates in their home-state. Also, people are much more informed on different candidates than in the past when there were less efficient means to getting information.

Explanation:

Bills stating that the African-American and Female population could vote were only recently passed, hundreds of years after the Constitution was made. Also, things like the internet have made information infinitely more accessible than in the past.
