Coming out is the short of "coming out of the closet". This applies to people expressing their sexuality fully especially when it has to do with LGBT; it can also be used in the case on non-LGBT genders.
It is a period of acknowledging, accepting, discovering your gender identity, being bold about it, exploring and experiencing the benefits of being such a gender.
