Best Answer:<span>  </span><span>One key thing to know when considering Hammurabi's "Code" is that it is NOT the first "law code" in Mesopotamian history. Rather, it stands in a line with a number of earlier Sumerian codes (though, unfortunately, these are not as completely preserved).

Here are a handful of things this "Code" seem to reveal about Hammurabi and the society in which he lived:

1) The fact that Hammurabi was following the pattern of several earlier (Sumerian) rulers in issuing this "code" suggests he was NOT trying to establish something brand new (even though the prologue brags a bit about his surpassing his predecessors). He saw himself as much like these earlier rulers, and was declaring his legitimacy and suitedness to rule -- since he was a good "shepherd" looking after his people. (This image, emphasized in H's "prologue" to the code, was a common Mesopotamian image for good rulers.)

2) The fact that H. published it at the BEGINNING of his reign --those other rulers did so LATE in their rule-- suggests that the situation was very STABLE at the time. H did not have to spend a lot of time gaining control and fighting for reforms.

3) The same stability & conservatism is suggested by the great SIMILARITY in the sort of principles expressed in the law in comparison with what we have (though incomplete) from the earlier laws (esp of Lipit-Ishtar).

4) There WERE class distinctions that came into play. Thus, for instance, the penalty for injury to a slave would not be as severe as that to a social equal, let alone a superior. (The "eye for an eye" principle -- which is about making sure the punishment is suited to the crime [not excessive] NOT about "getting revenge" -- only actually applied if the parties were of equal social standing.)

5) The legal system was not only stable but rather complex. The laws (like Lipit-Ishtar's) even reflect the more advanced idea of "tort" (that is, damages for an injured party when there is no evidence of criminal intent). All of this indicates a complex society with experienced leading classes (offiicals, priests, etc).

6) The way the "code" is organized does not suggest an attempt at absolute, careful completeness -- it rather represents more a representative COLLECTION, perhaps of the way such cases had ALREADY been decided, in other words, more a "case law" approach, like the traditional British common law. This again points out the long, gradual and stable history of development... of Mesopotamian societies working out how to handle these matters.

7) This structure as a not quite systematic collection is one reason some hesitate to call it a "law code" at all (and why I use the quotation marks!) More important than that, it is not clear that what we have was USED quite that way. The inscription was posted on a public obelisk -- which itself appears to be a "votive" object, that is, something set up to express devotion to a god (or gods)</span>

The rebound phenomenon noted after deprivation of rem sleep suggests that?
Goshia [24]

REM rebound is the lengthening and increasing frequency and depth of speedy eye movement (REM) sleep which happens after periods of sleep deprivation. Whilst people were averted from experiencing REM, they take less time than typical to gain the REM country. While humans are unable to obtain an ok quantity of REM sleep, the strain to gain REM sleep builds up. whilst the problem is able to sleep, they may spend a higher percent of the night time in REM sleep.

After early research connected fast eye movement with dreaming and set up that it made up about 20% of regular human sleep, experimenters started out depriving check subjects of only REM sleep, to test its precise significance.

Every time a subject's electroencephalogram and eye moves indicated the beginning of REM sleep, the experimenter would very well wake them for several minutes. As this “dream deprivation” continued, tendency to provoke REM increased, and the subjects had been woken up increasingly times every night time.

How early do sociologists believe parents begin socializing their children into gender? at birth and perhaps even in utero when
shusha [124]

The correct answer is A) at birth and perhaps even in utero.

How early do sociologists believe parents begin socializing their children into gender? At birth and perhaps even in utero.

Parents are full of happiness with the coming baby. So they start to talk to the baby before he/she is born. That is why the father talks directly into the belly of the mother and expresses sweet and tender words if it is a girl. Or the opposite, if the baby is a boy, the father expresses words such as "you are going to be a tough man," or "you are going to be a great football player..."

That is why doctors and sociologists think that the baby starts to feel or listen to the first concepts about masculinity or feminity.

How did ancient civilizations contribute to the development of the eastern hemisphere
RSB [31]
<span>The “urban revolution” or the leap into civilization was made about 3500BC; over the next 3,000 years, civilization spread throughout the ancient Near East.  The peoples of the ancient Near East learned to master their environment and create a food surplus.  These ancient peoples “invented” civilization and developed early forms of government, law, society, and economies.  These peoples created notable works of art and architecture, from the Ziggurat to the Pyramids to the palaces of Minoan civilization.  They invented writing: cuneiform and hieroglyphics.  They created sophisticated regions, ranging from the polytheism of most peoples to the ethical monotheism of the Hebrews.  As it did so, great empires rose and fell, creating a pattern that will be imitated throughout history;  most peoples, when given the opportunity, become aggressive and expansionist and build empires; each empire is then destroyed by the ambitions of the people who built it.  Surviving the collapse of Empires was the culture created by these peoples--and it will have an impact on our next cluster of civilizations, the Hellenic, the Hellenistic, and the Roman.  Collectively called Classical Civilization, these three dominated the Mediterranean world from ca 500 BC to AD 500.
