Which lines in this excerpt from “Flight” by John Steinbeck contain personification? The farm buildings huddled like the clingin

g aphids on the mountain skirts, crouched low to the ground as though the wind might blow them into the sea. . . . Five-fingered ferns hung over the water and dropped spray from their fingertips. . . . The high mountain wind coasted sighing through the passand whistled on the edges of the big blocks of broken granite. . . . A scar of green grass cut across the flat. And behind the flat another mountain rose, desolate with dead rocks and starving little black bushes. . . . Gradually the sharp snaggled edge of the ridge stood out above them, rotten granite tortured and eaten by the winds of time. Pepe had dropped his reins on the horn, leaving direction to the horse. The brush grabbed at his legs in the dark until one knee of his jeans was ripped.

Here are the lines the contain personification:
-The high mountain wind coasted sighing through the pass and whistled on the edges of the big blocks of broken granite. . . .
-And behind the flat another mountain rose, desolate with dead rocks and starving little black bushes. . . .
Basically, when we say personification, this is one of the figures of speech which attributes the characteristics of humans to something that is not human.

2. What type of fallacy is represented by the passage below?
VikaD [51]

Answer:

Ad hominem attack

Explanation:

A logical fallacy is a flaw in reasoning.

Ad hominem (literally translated as to the person) is a type of logical fallacy in which a person criticizes or attacks another person, rather than what they are saying. Here, the speaker doesn't critize the mentioned poem. They don't give explanations about why the poem is not good. They simply attack the writer, stating that they are a sick and morbid person. That is not a valid reason as to why someone shouldn't read a poem.

1. List at least five descriptive words and phrases that Bradford uses to describe the
Aleks [24]

Answer and Explanation:

1. Bradford uses words like "savages", "cruel", "brutal", "barbarians" and "treacherous". He says that one of the biggest challenges to establish in America would be to live “in continual danger of the savage people who are cruel, barbarious, and most treacherous”

2. This position of Bradford in relation to the indigenous people shows a negative connotation of the indigenous people and portrays them as irrational beasts and lacking an intellect that allows them to think and act in a civilized way. Probably, Bradford, drew this conclusion from stories he had heard in England about the aggressiveness and lack of civilization of the Indians, however, we know that the Indians were essential to the success of the colony that Bradford was established.

3. The choice of words and the diction used by Bradford gives the text an uncomfortable impact, as it shows the ignorant and adverse view of the colonizers with the natives and reinforcing the European view that native peoples should be suppressed and act in a submissive way. land that rightfully was theirs.
