Using the law of cosins

sin(angle) = Opposite Leg / Hypotenuse

The angle is given as 35 degree and the hypotenuse is given as 30 feet.

Sin(35) = X ( opposite leg) / 30

X = 30 * sin(35)

x = 17.2 feet.

Total height = 17.2 + 6.5 = 23.7, round to 24 feet.

The answer is 24 feet.

A lumber company is making doors that are 2058.02058.0 millimeters tall. If the doors are too long they must be trimmed, and if
nataly862011 [7]

Answer:

t=\frac{2044-2058}{\frac{17}{\sqrt{15}}}=-3.190

df=n-1=15-1=14

p_v =P(t_{(14)}

If we compare the p value and the significance level given \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v so we can conclude that we have enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, so we can conclude that the mean is significantly lower than 2058 mm at 5% of signficance.

Step-by-step explanation:

Data given and notation

\bar X=2044 represent the sample mean

s=17 represent the sample standard deviation

n=15 sample size

\mu_o =2058 represent the value that we want to test

\alpha=0.05 represent the significance level for the hypothesis test.

t would represent the statistic (variable of interest)

p_v represent the p value for the test (variable of interest)

State the null and alternative hypotheses.

We need to conduct a hypothesis in order to check if the mean is lower than 2058 mm, the system of hypothesis are :

Null hypothesis:\mu \geq 2058

Alternative hypothesis:\mu < 2058

Since we don't know the population deviation, is better apply a t test to compare the actual mean to the reference value, and the statistic is given by:

t=\frac{\bar X-\mu_o}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}} (1)

t-test: "Is used to compare group means. Is one of the most common tests and is used to determine if the mean is (higher, less or not equal) to an specified value".

Calculate the statistic

We can replace in formula (1) the info given like this:

t=\frac{2044-2058}{\frac{17}{\sqrt{15}}}=-3.190

P-value

First we need to calculate the degrees of freedom given by:

df=n-1=15-1=14

Since is a one-sided lower test the p value would be:

p_v =P(t_{(14)}

Conclusion

If we compare the p value and the significance level given \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v so we can conclude that we have enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, so we can conclude that the mean is significantly lower than 2058 mm at 5% of signficance.

Plz help me how would you solve 4x + 2y = 18, 3x - 5y =20 by elemination
Natalka [10]

Answer: x = 5, y = -1

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

Equation 1: 4x + 2y = 18

Equation 2: 3x - 5y = 20

In order to eliminate one of the variables , find the LCM of either x or y.

<em>I chose to eliminate y.</em>  The LCM of 2 & 5 is 10.

Multiply the entire equation so the coefficient of the variable equals the LCM.

Then add the equations and solve for the remaining variable.

5(4x + 2y = 18)       -->        20x + 10y = 90

2(3x - 5y = 20)      -->        <u>   6x  - 10y</u> = <u>40 </u>

                                           26x          = 130

                                         <u> ÷26         </u>    <u>÷26 </u>

                                                x         =  5

Next, input x = 5 into either of the equations to solve for y.

Equation 1: 4x + 2y = 18

                 4(5) + 2y = 18

                  20  + 2y = 18

                <u> -20          </u>  <u>-20 </u>

                           2y = -2

                         <u> ÷2  </u>  <u> ÷2 </u>

                             y = -1

Brut [27]

Answer:

a)

x  |  y

==========

16  |  3

12  |  6

8   |  9

4   |  12

b) A large basket contains 23 eggs

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Isolating 3x, we get

3x = 60-4y

This means that 60-4y is a multiple of 3.

Besides, as x is a positive integer, then x = 60-4y has to be greater than zero

60-4y>0

Solving the inequality for y

60>4y

60/4 > y

15>y (or y<15, which is the same)

The multiples of 3 which are smaller than 15 are 3,6,9 and 12

Now we draw a table for these values of y and found the value of x by replacing in the equation 3x = 60-4y---> x = (60-4y)/3

x  |  y

=======

16  |  3

12  |  6

8   |  9

4   |  12

And these are all the solutions in positive integers.

b) This problem is pretty much like problem a)

Let's call x the number of eggs contained in the large baskets and y the number of eggs contained in the small baskets.

Then

Number of eggs bought - number of eggs sold = number of eggs left over.

In this case

11x-39y = 19

But we also know that 0<y<12 because the small baskets hols fewer than a dozen.

Isolating x in the equation 11x-39y + 19, we get

x=(19+39y)/11

Now we make a table with these values of x and y remembering that y is a positive integer smaller than 12

x   | y

=======

5.2  | 1

8.8  | 2

12.4 | 3

15.9 | 4

19.5 | 5

23   | 6

26.6 | 7

30.1 | 8

33.6 | 9

37.2 |10

40.7 |11

From this table we see that the only integer solution for x is 23, so a large basket contains 23 eggs.
