<em>For academic writing, business writing and also writing and delivering a speech, what you write and say must be clear. There are certain rules you have to follow. Make sure that you tell the audience what the central idea is. This is done in your thesis statement or speech intro which is the first sentence. It's a very general sentence that introduces the topic of the paragraph, nothing else! In other words adding details and particular key info in this sentence is not ideal because all the details come after.  </em>

<em>The final sentence must directly relate back to the main idea and in this sentence it would also not be ideal to include key details from the story. All key details and plot take place in the body paragraph. There's nothing wrong with making an emotional appeal as an intro and then end with an ethical appeal as a closing sentence.</em>
