Answer:

A major gas leak occurred in a pesticide factory.

Explanation:

The city of Bhopal is located in central India, it was the scene of one of the greatest tragedies in history. It all began on December 3, 1984, in an insecticide factory that used the following reaction to obtain its final product: methyl isocyanate.

This raw material is a highly toxic gaseous substance. The factory used a large amount of gas and therefore kept the stock in the tanks. It happened that at dawn on the 3rd, due to numerous failures, the gas trapped in the tanks leaked completely. At the same time, thousands of people took to the streets feeling the following symptoms: difficulty breathing, burning eyes, dizziness, among others. The loss of vision was one of the consequences of the injured, and the worst, several people (including children) died the same day and the following days.

Many pregnant women living in the city of Bhopal suffered instant miscarriages and most of the babies born in those days were killed. It was a real catastrophe. It is estimated that in the early hours the accident caused about 8000 fatalities. And in the years that followed, the death toll reached 22,000.
