False

Cryosphere can be defined as the portion of the earth’s where the water is in its solid form which includes lake ice, snow, ice caps, sea ice. Thus, cryosphere form an integral part of the global climate system and it overlap with the hydrosphere. Furthermore, the snow or ice areas are subjected to temperature below 320F for at least part of the year.

Question 14(Multiple Choice Worth 2 points)
balu736 [363]

The answer is D. The Protista have very little in common with each other besides being unicellular and Eukaryota.

Protista is one of kingdom that consist of any eukaryotic that could not classified as plant, animal or fungi. Since the classification itself based on exclusion, protist group has much less similarity than other group. All protist is unicellular and eukaryote but other than that, they will have many difference in other aspect.

A patient was admitted to the hospital medical floor with a diagnosis of chronic bronchitis, which is an inflammation of the air
mote1985 [20]
In the case of chronic bronchitis or chronic inflammation of the airways, cyanosis or the bluish discoloration of the skin results from the reduced levels of oxygen in the blood. With reduced oxygen levels, the blood in the arteries will not be bright red in color but rather be brownish just like venous blood and this reflects in the skin as bluish in color.

What is the primary mechanism associated with the role of fluoride in prevention of dental caries? a. Fluoride increases calci
MAXImum [283]

Answer:

d. Fluoride becomes incorporated into the crystalline structure of teeth, making them less susceptible to decay

Explanation:

Dental caries results when cariogenic (caries-causing) bacteria metabolize carbohydrates or sugars present in the mouth for their energy needs, producing organic acids as byproducts, thus lowering the pH of the plaque biofilm.

The hydroxyapatite of tooth enamel is composed mainly of phosphate ions (PO₄³⁻) and calcium ions (Ca⁺). Under normal conditions, there is a stable equilibrium between the calcium and phosphate ions in saliva and the crystalline hydroxyapatite. At low pH (acidic conditions), there is a shift in equilibrium resulting in the dissolution of hydroxyapatite from tooth enamel, a process known as demineralization. A reverse process called remineralization (the process of incorporation of minerals in tooth enamel) occurs when the saliva, acting as a buffer elevates pH. When equilibrium is shifted to favor continued demineralization, dental caries results.

However, when fluoride is present in saliva, fluorapatite, rather than hydroxyapatite, forms during the remineralization process as fluoride ions replace hydroxyl groups in the formation of the apatite crystal lattice.

Fluorapatite is less soluble than hydroxyapatite making it more resistant to demineralization, even under conditions of low pH. Thus, fluoride acts as an effective anticaries agent.
