Answer:

Santa Anna became president in 1833. He revoked the Texan constitution, taking away all authority and autonomy from the state, which angered Texan settlers.

Explanation:

Santa Anna came to power in 1833. When he assumed the presidency of Mexico, he maintained his position in allowing Mexican states to have their own laws, tax collections and managed independently from the federal government, claiming that Mexico was a federation of independent states. However, in order to have complete control of the Mexican army and increase state taxes, he went back on that position and revoked the state constitutions, including Texas, which deeply irritated the Texan settlers who started the Texan revolution.

The 14th Amendment protects both civil rights and civil liberties.
Sphinxa [80]

Answer:

The Founding Fathers established a system of checks and balances to ensure that one branch of government did not become more powerful than the other two branches. The U.S. Constitution gives the judicial branch the role of interpreting the laws.

In 1803, the power of the judicial branch was more clearly defined with the landmark supreme court case Marbury v. Madison. This court case and the others listed here are those that have had a significant impact on determining the abilities of the U.S. Supreme Court to determine civil rights cases and clarifies the power of the federal government over state's rights.
