Answer: The correct answer is- B. The population of predators would decrease.

Food web describes an interconnected network of food chain, where transfer of energy takes place among different organisms within an ecosystem.

Predators are primarily the wild animals that capture, kill, and consume other animals ( called prey) for obtaining energy ( that is as a source of food). If prey are removed from a food web, food source for predator will be reduced, causing a decline in the population of predators within food web.

How do the finger-like projections facilitate the absorption?
Nesterboy [21]
Finger- like projections facilitate absorption in the following ways;
a) They increase the surface area of the organ eg. small intestines to allow more area of nutrients to be absorbed. The larger the surface area the more nutrients are absorbed.

b) They contain many capillaries which helps to increase the rate of nutrients absorption in the small intestines.

What percentage of offspring from a cross between a homozygous type A parent with a heterozygous Type A parent is expected to co
snow_lady [41]

The correct answer is option B, 50%

Let us take the following case:

Genotype of heterozygous parent - (Aa)

Genotype of homozygous parent – (aa)

Allele I  - (Aa)

Allele II – (aa)

The cross between the two is shown below:

Aa  X aa

Aa, Aa, aa, aa

There are 50 % Aa, and 50 % aa allele.

Thus, the allele I (Aa) is 50 %.

If a mutation occurred that increased the number of exons in a sequence of DNA, what impact would this have on the protein forme
erastovalidia [21]

Answer:

See the answer below

Explanation:

<em>An increase in the number of exons in a sequence of DNA would result in another protein with a longer amino acid sequence.</em>

<u>Exons are the coding part of a gene as opposed to introns. After transcription, the non-coding part of the gene - the introns - are removed by splicing and the exons are joined back together. The final RNA that will undergo translation consists of only exons. </u>

The longer the exons in a gene, the more the codons present in the corresponding mRNA from the gene, and the more the number of amino acids that would be translated from the mRNA. A longer amino acid chain would result in a different protein.

Hence, a mutation that causes an increase in the number of exons in a sequence of DNA would result in a different protein with a longer amino acid sequence.

Why do you think invasive species are more of a problem in human altered biomes (anthromes) than they are in a biome that has no
Anna11 [10]

Answer:

invasive species are a problem both in anthropogenically altered and natural environments

Explanation:

An invasive species can be defined as a non-native species introduced into a new environment which then becomes abundant. Only in the US, it is believed that there are approximately 4,000 invasive species (some examples include the feral pigs, grey squirrels, European rabbits, etc.). In general, invasive species have a negative impact on the ecosystem, especially by displacing native species and thereby altering the trophic chain. In anthropogenically altered environments (anthromes), human beings are considered to be an invasive species.
