Which of the following statements about peptide bond formation is true? View Available Hint(s) Which of the following statements

about peptide bond formation is true? Protein enzymes catalyze the formation of peptide bonds between adjacent amino acids. RNA catalyzes the formation of peptide bonds. Peptide bond formation occurs in the absence of any catalyst. Peptide bond formation occurs within the small subunit of the ribosome.

Answer:

RNA catalyzes the formation of peptide bonds

Explanation:

The formation of a peptide bomb between two amino acids in translation which occurs in the ribosomes is catalyzed by peptidyl transferase. Peptidyl transferase is an enzyme that catalyzes addition of amino acid to a growing polypeptide chain and found in the large subunit of the ribosomes. For prokaryotes, the 50S (23S componenet) and for eukaryotes, the 60S (28S component). Its activity is mainly mediated by rRNA and not proteins and thus the region is always referred to as a ribozyme: only enzymes not made up of proteins.

Which of the following will most likely happen to an enzyme if it is placed in
ella [17]

Answer:

The enzyme will no longer bind to the substrate, slowing or stopping the chemical reaction

Explanation:

The enzyme will get denatured and therefore its active site (that binds the substrate) will be deformed and unable to catalyze reactions. The enzymes, mostly made of folded proteins, are made stable by the interactions between the protein’s amino acids side groups. Changes in the pH of the solution influence the charges of these groups hence altering their interactions. This causes the protein enzyme to deform causing it to lose its function.
