eptomycin sulfate (streptomycin) therapy. The client says, "I've never had to take so much medication for an infection before." The nurse should explain:
<span>Multiple drugs are administered because of the
concern regarding drug resistance. Streptomycin sulfate is an antibiotic; it
does not prevent the side effects of Rifater therapy. Multiple antitubercular
drugs are necessary for an extended period, approximately six to eight months
depending on the individual. Aggressive therapy may increase anxiety and may
not be needed even when the infection is well advanced.</span>
