In my opinion, Marisol would be the correct answer for both A and B. I think, though, that the expected answer would be Lindy for A. I say this because with simple numbers such as 10 or 20, if it's 15+ you'd round it to 20, but if it was 14- you'd round it to 10. Does that makes sense?

Answer: they have

et n = number of nickels

Let d = number of dimes

given:

(1) +n+%2B+d+=+45+

(2) +5n+%2B+10d+=+360+

-------------------

Multiply both sides of (1) by 5

and subtract (1) from (2)

(2) +5n+%2B+10d+=+360+

(1) +-5n+-+5d+=+-225+

+5d+=+135+

+d+=+27+

and, since

(1) +n+%2B+d+=+45+

(1) +n+%2B+27+=+45+

(1) +n+=+45+-+27+

(1) +n+=+18+

She had 18 nickels and 27 dimes

check:

(2) +5%2A18+%2B+10%2A27+=+360+

(2) +90+%2B+270+=+360+

(2) +360+=+360+

Chen is bringing fruit and veggies to serve at an afternoon meeting. He spends a total of $28.70 on 5 pints of cut veggies and 7
cricket20 [7]

Answer:

The price of a pint of veggies is $1.75

Step-by-step explanation:

* Lets change the story problem to equations and solve them to find

 the answer

- Chen is bringing fruit and veggies to serve at an afternoon meeting

- He spends a total of $28.70 on 5 pints of cut veggies and 7 pints

 of cut fruit

- The food cost is modeled by the equation 5 v + 7 f = 28.70, where

v represents the cost of one pint of cut veggies and f represents

the cost of one pint of cut fruit

∴ The first equation is 5 v + 7 f = 28.70 ⇒ (1)

- The cost of each pint of fruit is $2.85

∵ f represents the cost of one pint of cut fruit

∴ f = 2.85

- Substitute the value of f in equation (1) to find the value of v

∵ 5 v + 7 f = 28.70 ⇒ (1)

∵ f = 2.85

∴ 5 v + 7 (2.85) = 28.70

∴ 5 v + 19.95 = 28.70

- Subtract 19.95 from each side

∴ 5 v = 8.75

- Divide both sides by 5

∴ v = 1.75

∵  v represents the cost of one pint of cut veggies

∴ The price of a pint of veggies is $1.75
