The ghost in Hamlet is the character that Shakespeare is using to create suspense this is with the idea of creating a setting that would set the audience on a mood that would prepare them to know about the conspirations and assasinations of the different royal members of the family, and through act 1 scene 1 Shakespeare uses the Ghost to create that suspense environment.
"The Luncheon" by Maugham recounts a lunch he had with a woman who admired his writing. At the start, he is nervous about accepting the invitation to the fancy restaurants she proposes, but she assures him she never orders much, except, during the lunch, she orders many dishes and only eats one at a time.
