The purpose of the vows is to provide the consecrated person with a break from all human conditions, whether personal, cultural or ideological, being authentic in the proclamation of the Gospel made by him. In turn, they are decisive in the missionary life of the consecrated person because, through them, the bonds that prevent us from serving with love to the brothers are broken. In the 1962 book Silent Spring, Carson wrote how pesticides killed everything and should be called biocides because of that. Even though she had her worries about acute pesticide poisoning, she was really alarmed about slow pesticide poisoning of everything, like humans and plants.
