Tulsa was settled between 1828 and 1836 by the Lochapoka Band of Creek Native American tribe.Tulsa's origins begin in the late 1820s with the removal of the Creek from their ancestral homes in Georgia and Alabama. After arriving here in 1833 the Lower Creek settled in present Tulsa, negotiating a treaty with the Cherokee and positioning the boundaries between the two nations. By 1920 Tulsa stood on the cutting edge of the oil industry, which was always looking for new revenue sources. All of this activity caused Tulsa to experience an amazing leap in population. According to the 1940 census the community had grown to 142,157.
