Describe the personal characteristics that make Grendel an antagonist in

English
1 answer:
Setler79 [48]3 years ago

Answer:

Grendel acts in a wild and malicious way, causing evil and sadness, besides being a creature distant from God, created by sin. This makes him a villain and an antagonist to Beowulf.

Explanation:

Grendel was created after Cain killed Abel. He is a direct descendant of Cain, becoming someone away from God, without honor and with the mark of sin in his blood. This makes Grendel to represent everything that is bad, such as sin. Grendel represents evil, destruction, death and suffering, moreover he is a creature that acts in an irrational, wild and unscrupulous way. Unlike Beowulf, who is an honorable hero who promotes good.

Example of humor in the modest proposal
iris [78.8K]

Explanation:

Take, for instance, the description of "an American" friend who has provided the speaker with information about preparing humans for consumption. This gives us a general idea, though within a comical context, of the reputation "Americans" still had in the early eighteenth century for being uncivilized, veritable "savages." But it's hyperbolic. (Hopefully Swift knew that Americans were not really like this, even at that time.)

Sophocles chose to recall events of Laius's death rather than portray them. What is the effect of this structural decision?
elixir [45]

Answer:

"In recalling the events of Laius 'death, Sophocles blames Oedipus' character. That's because, Oedipus' memory doesn't let him escape the guilt over his father's murder. This means that he has no way to deny what he did, because his own mind shows that he is the murderer. In this way, Sophocles allows Oedipus to become a self-tortured soul, as his thoughts return to that memory and do not allow him to free himself from guilt, which makes Oedipus look for punishment himself."
