The human body has three line of defenses to protect the body from the attack of the pathogens. The first line of defense includes the physical barriers that prevent the entry of these antigens into the body. The second line of defense includes the leukocytes, inflammatory response and fever, and the third line of defense includes the antibodies secreted by the lymphocytes and the memory cells.

The innate immunity includes the proteins and cells which are already present in the body of a person. The adaptive immunity fights the pathogens that escape the innate immunity. The components of adaptive immunity includes B and T lymphocytes. The acquired immunity refers to the memory of the previously fought antigen.

The fever and flu of the Nina exhibits the second line of defense which is a part of the innate immunity.

The complement pathway is a critical mechanism for eliminating microbes, and is comprised of more than 30 proteins that are cons
BaLLatris [955]

Answer:

3. Antibody-independent pathways of complement activation rely on complement components that directly bind to microbial surfaces.

Explanation:

There are three pathways of complement activation:

  • The classical pathway.
  • The alternative pathway.
  • The lectin pathway.

The classical pathway is triggered by binding of C1 either to the pathogen surface or to antibody bound to the pathogen.

The alternative pathway is triggered by the spontaneous hydrolysis of soluble C3 to C3(H₂O) and initiates eventual deposition of C3 convertase on microbial surfaces.

The lectin pathway is triggered by the binding of mannose-binding lectin or ficolins to carbohydrate residues in microbial cell walls and capsules.

Fruit production in anthophytes develops from: a. a female reproductive structure b. a male reproductive structure c. both male
Fed [463]

Answer:

a. a female reproductive structure

Explanation:

Reproduction can be defined as a biological process which typically involves living organisms producing an offspring.

Basically, there are two (2) methods of reproduction and these are;

I. Sexual reproduction: it involves the combination of the genome (gamete) of a male and female living organism during fertilization.

II. Asexual reproduction: it involves the cloning of a living organism to produce an offspring because there is only a single parent.

Antophyte is the division name for flowering plants and they are considered to be the most successful of all the other division of plants in terms of reproduction.

Division Antophyta are classified into two (2) main categories and these includes;

I. Monocot: this group of flowering plants have a single cotyledon. Some examples of monocots are lilies, corns, grasses etc.

II. Dicot: this group of flowering plants have two cotyledon. Some examples of dicots are beans, peas, peanuts, etc.

Basically, fruit production in anthophytes develops from female reproductive structure known as the ovary. Once the ovary is fertilized by a sperm, they ripen into a fruit.
