Which phrase in the following passage is the best context clue to understanding the meaning of the word brat?
swat32

Answer:

"always wanted to do things differently"

Explanation:

brat

[brat]

NOUN

derogatory

humorous

a child, typically a badly behaved one.

Doing things differently could be counted as misbehaving depending on what it is. But if we look at the rest of our answers,

" continued to do so " doesn't answer anything to do with the word ' brat '.

" graduate college and enroll in medical school " doesn't seem like something a brat would do if they were a misbehaved child.

" high hopes " doesn't answer anything to do with the word ' brat '.

Based on this description of the townspeople's reactions, what inferences can you draw about Mr. Hooper's happiness in life?
guajiro [1.7K]

Inferences can be tough. It involves you to use all of the information surrounding it in order to make a conclusion based on what is happening. As you read the passage, document or highlight the townspeople reactions to Mr. Hooper. Are they sad for him?  Happy?  Surprised?  For example, if his happiness makes the townspeople feel sad towards him, that says that his happiness in life hasn’t really been present (possibly because of some tragedy). Therefore their feeling of sadness stems from the fact that his happiness has long since been overdue.
