The lack of a dispute resolving body in the articles of Confederation left the federal government from addressing the issues among states to avoid this  the judicial branch was set up under the Constitution and Supreme court judges were provided with lifetime appointment. The founding fathers decided to give the justices and other federal judges lifetime appointment  so that they would be prevented form being influenced by other branches of the government. It allows them to make decisions without any fear.

The answer is D.  This is because we want the Supreme Court Justices to be impartial.  They should be allowed to go against the President or Congress without fear of not being reelected.
