A nurse is working in the health office at a local college where most of the students are young adults. Being aware of the major
concerns for this age-group, the nurse includes assessment of these clients': 1. Current marital history status
2. Lifestyle and leisure activities
3. Experience with chronic disease
4. History of childhood accidents
The lifestyle and leisure activities greatly contribute to the health of young adults. Whether they do drugs, smoke, are around something at home, or their friends dorm.
As young adults there is the need to explore some activities just to catch fun and sometimes may be due to peer pressure. There are usually lots of leisure and lifestyle activities such as drinking , smoking etc.
This gives the nurse an idea of how to deal with patients who have complications resulting from any of the activities.
The nurse knows marital history status doesn’t tell the true health situations of individuals and it’s a rare for people that age to be married or have a marital history.
Chronic diseases are mostly associated with older people.
Childhood accidents don’t give a clearer picture also about the health status of the students.
You should treat her as a patient and a normal person, as you should treat any patient. Do not let personal connections get in the way of a professional mental disorder situation. Treat her with care and as a patient. At work play your role as coworker, and in the group play the role as caregiver.
