Answer:

The solution is:

Part A. \sqrt{5}^{\frac{7k}{3}}) which is sqrt(5)^7k/3[/tex]

Part B. k = 18/7

Step-by-step explanation:

Part A.

To solve this part, we're going two use THREE important properties of exponents:

1. (x^{n})^{m} = x^{nm}

2. \frac{x^{n}}{x^{m}} = x^{n-m}

3. \sqrt[n]{x^{m}} = x^{\frac{m}{n} }

Let's work the numerator using the properties 1, 2 and 3:

(\sqrt{5}^{3} )^{\frac{k}{9} } }  = (\sqrt{5}^{3\frac{k}{9}}) = (\sqrt{5}^{\frac{k}{3}})

Let's work the denominator using the properties 1, 2 and 3:

(\sqrt{5}^{6} )^{-\frac{k}{3} } }  = (\sqrt{5}^{6\frac{k}{3}}) = (\sqrt{5}^(2k))

Now dividing the numerator by the denominator:

\sqrt{5}^{\frac{k}{3}-(-2k)})=\sqrt{5}^{\frac{7k}{3}})

Part B

if 5^{\frac{3}{2} } 5^{\frac{3}{2}} = \sqrt{5}^{\frac{7k}{3}})

Then:

5^{3} = 5^{\frac{7k}{6}})

So \frac{7k}{6}} = 3

Solving for k, we have:

k = 18/7

8. Combine the like terms in this expression: –3x + 2xy + 4y – xy + 2x – 11y
luda_lava [24]

Answer:

D. –X+XY–7y

Step-by-step explanation:

We just have to combine (add) the similar terms... so all terms that have an x in them for example.

–3x + 2xy + 4y – xy + 2x – 11y

Let's first re-write it placing similar terms next to each other

(-3x + 2x) + (2xy - xy) + (4y - 11y)

Then we sum them up, for each similar terms

1x + 1xy -7y

so, x + xy -7y

Jen butler has been pricing speed-pass train fares for a round trip to New York three adults and four children must pay $118 two
vitfil [10]

Answer:

Adult’s ticket = $ 18

Child’s ticket = $ 16

Step-by-step explanation:

Adults: x

Children: y

(3x + 4y = 118) * (2) = 6x + 8y = 236

(2x + 3y = 84) * (-3) = -6x - 9y = -252

Add both equations:

-y = - 16

y = 16

3x + 4(16) = 118

3X + 64 = 118

3X = 118 - 64

X = 54/3=18

I need explanations for Mathematical Proofs.
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

Proofs employ logic expressed in mathematical symbols, along with natural language which usually admits some ambiguity. In most mathematical literature, proofs are written in terms of rigorous informal logic.

According to Bleiler-Baxter & Pair [22], for a mathematician, a proof serves to convince or justify that a certain statement is true. But it also helps to increase the understanding of the result and the related concepts. That is why a proof also has the role of explanation.

There are many different ways to go about proving something, we'll discuss 3 methods: direct proof, proof by contradiction, proof by induction. We'll talk about what each of these proofs are, when and how they're used. Before diving in, we'll need to explain some terminology.

Although I will focus on proofs in mathematical education per the topic of the question, first and foremost proofs are so hard because they involve taking a hypothesis and attempting to prove or disprove it by finding a counterexample. There are many such hypotheses that have (had) serious monetary rewards available.

In logic and mathematics, a formal proof or derivation is a finite sequence of sentences (called well-formed formulas in the case of a formal language), each of which is an axiom, an assumption, or follows from the preceding sentences in the sequence by a rule of inference.

All mathematicians in the study considered proofs valuable for students because they offer students new methods, important concepts and exercise in logical reasoning needed in problem solving. The study shows that some mathematicians consider proving and problem solving almost as the same kind of activities.
