The comparison implies each statement is as poignant as the other:-
'time is history' - every moment of time (seconds, minutes etc) passes and we cannot reclaim it, the best we can do is reflect and as we do, our understanding grows...
hence the similarity in
'space is to geography' - again, we have no control in the understanding - what we think we understand grows bigger/wider and more confusing every time we study it.
Happenings (time and space) grow bigger, more distant and more fascinating constantly, we have no control over it and must accept it .
