Professor Hernandez was interested in how basketball player’s performance was affected by the presence of other people. There we

re two types of players: good players and bad players. They were tested under two different conditions: alone or in the presence of an audience. The basketball players were to shoot ten shots from atleast ten feet away from the hoop.

Independent variable - Player being good or bad , presence of audience

Dependent variable - Performance of player

Explanation:

Independent variables are the constant variable in an experiment whose effect is studied on the subject of the experiment. While dependent variables are those which are dependent upon the independent variable.  

Here, performance of the player is independent variable which is dependent upon the presence of audience. Hence “presence of audience” is the independent variable.  Also , the type of player is also an independent variable which shall effect the performance of an individual player
