America’s imperialistic tendencies make it into an empire. America has conquered land in the pacific, near Canada, and in the Caribbean. Not only has the United States extended it’s reach into distant lands, but the US has also declared areas as protectorate states.
This extended grasp of land outside the continental US, makes it into an empire, much like the British empire.
