Wetlands destruction has increased flood and drought damage, nutrient runoff and water pollution, and shoreline erosion, and triggered a decline in wildlife populations. Destruction of wetlands is also detrimental to our region’s economy: recreation like fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching generate more than $22 billion annually. According to the Brookings Institute, restoration of the Great Lakes will create economic benefits of at least $50 billion and create thousands of jobs. Wetlands restoration is a major component of the overall Great Lakes Restoration Initiative An effective strategy for protecting coastal wetlands includes a coastal marine spatial planning effort focused on the shared goal of identifying future competitive uses and impacts. Essential stakeholders includes coastal community governments, shippers, port authorities, recreational and commercial fishing interests, the Coast Guard, pipeline companies, utilities, and state and local resource agencies.

A plant is treated with a chemical that blocks the flow of electrons between photosystem II and photosystem I, such that protons
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

Reduce or stop the production of energy molecule i.e ATP

Explanation:

Proton is an essential ingredient to carry out light reactions successfully and the proton requirement is fulfilled through the proton gradient formed along the membrane. A chemical that blocks the flow of electrons thereby hindering the flow of proton will adversely affect the electron transport chain reactions thereby causing reduced/no conversion of ADP to ATP.

Which is not an impact to the ecosystem after a drought?
Nadya [2.5K]

Answer:

A. Floods will wipe out all the vegetation

Explanation:

Drought is an environmental condition characterized by scarcity of water. Less rainfall and reduced ground water levels facilitate drought like conditions. In the event of drought, animals face difficulty in finding food and water and thus are forced to migrate to other areas. However, flood is exact opposite to drought. It is caused by excess rainfall or increase in water level which destroys the ecosystem. It is not a characteristic of drought.

Which of the following is most likely to occur when excess fertilizer make their way into the waterways through run off
Usimov [2.4K]

Answer:

Eutrophication

Explanation:

When a body water lies in close proximity to any agricultural land, there are high chance of it receiving nutrient from the surrounding land in rainy season. The rich nutrient run off from these land parcels, mixes with the water of existing water body and make it extremely rich in growth nutrients. The excess of nutrients causes uninterrupted growth of algae and lead to algal boom. Oxygen in such water bodies depletes at a fast rate due to the increased productivity thereby harming the water animals living in it.

Suppose two students were experimenting with yeast to study cellular respiration. One student found glucose to be the most effic
Anika [276]
The correct option is D. Organisms work best at their optimum temperature and pH, above and below these temperature they will not be able to function as expected. It is possible that the students above use different temperature and pH when they were carrying out their experiments, this will result in different efficiency rate by the yeasts.
